To A Lustrous Dawn

Dawn breaks over the eastern sky
A blazed zephyr carries birds' chorale
To the stars and the moon, a goodbye.

On the horizon, tequila sun sighs
Lending verve to day's morale
Dawn breaks over the eastern sky.

Starlight ditties of lullaby
Give way to a cerulean royale
To the stars and the moon, a goodbye.

Chirping on my window-sill, a magpie
Feathered choirs, so mystic, surreal
Dawn breaks over the eastern sky.

Rosette tints radiate, magnify
A lilac sky swathes to reveal
To the stars and the moon, a goodbye.

Solar ripples intensify
Sparking a luminous appeal
Dawn breaks over the eastern sky
To the moon and the stars, a goodbye.

  1. A villanelle stands or falls on two lines – the ones which repeat throughout the poem. Write two good repeating lines, as here, and you have a strong framework to support your poem.

  2. I am always in such awe of how wonderfully you write. Transporting me to a better place when I am sad, to warmth when I am cold, to an appreciation of things when I feel there is none. I don’t even know if “awe” is sufficient to describe the happiness you bring dear sweet Yassy. You are such a blessing to me, more than you will ever know. Much love to you dear soul πŸ™‚ You give so much.

    1. You are such a pure soul my dearest friend. I feel pain when you say the words sad and cold , I want my soul sister to be the happiest , I want her to be smiling always and I can picture your dear face as I write. Our bonding is binding and infinite and I send you warm hugs and lots of love. It’s as if we are near , we are in spirit and that is so relevant and wonderful.
You take good care of yourself. Eat properly and sleep well.

      1. Sorting through some stuff which all seemed very important at the time – maybe it was – I am so glad to be back and writing – feels great – missed you too – it feels like home you know – when you get back to yourself and what you’re supposed to be doing 😊
